Our June travels took us to Mary and Bill's home for Geoff's graduation. Along the way we stayed at the Millhouse Lodge in very quaint Flat Rock, NC. We dined at the local spots. The first was a Japanese steak house, followed the next night with dinner at a really good Mexican eatery. We also did some sightseeing. We took a tour of Carl Sandburg's home and goat farm, toured a civil war cemetery, canoed along a small lake, and drove the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Eventually we made it to our destination, Virginia Beach. While there we visited Colonial Williamsburg, a small slice of American History for a reasonable fee. Being in town on Fathers Day we had Dinner with Mary Ann and Shirley's dad Hal, Jen and Geoff's dad Bill, and Bill's dad Ray. We ate at the Great Steak and Potato. At this restaurant, you personally select and cook your meal, they provide you a barbeque pit and all the necessary utensils. I recommend you try this place when in Virginia Beach. Later that day was the long awaited Graduation ceremony. This went well with no surprises. We all cheered and gave into the Pomp and Circumstance.
Since this trip Mary Ann passed the CPA exam on her first try. Congratulations.
We had a wonderful time. We will be back in 2001 for Jennifer's graduation.
Our second trip this summer was to vacation in Mexico Beach. The accommodations were arranged by my Father and the plan was a weekend at the beach, no children allowed. This was a good idea because we were able to visit with my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. We had a large dinner both nights and sang karaoke on occasion. The gulf of Mexico was "rough" but that didn't stop us from Scuba Diving off the beach. Danny made his first dive. John and Chris chartered a dive boat and dove a wreck dive 20 miles off shore. Everybody enjoyed sunning and relaxing on the beach.
